Our Summer So Far

June 10th, 2012

We’ve had a pretty low-key summer so far.  Might just be the last summer before my twins are in kindergarten so we’re trying to enjoy time together.  If lady bugs are out, it entertains the boys for a good hour in the early mornings.  They all get along and come up with the cutest stories about these bugs.

Ian’s bugs usually have a short life.  He doesn’t mean to, but they always get stepped on or squished.  He never even seems to notice.

These two were twin brothers searching for their baby brother.  Their momma was cooking dinner.

Swatting flies on the window is also a favorite activity.  I’ll take flies over the thousands of moths any day, especially since it provides a little entertainment at the end of a hot day.  I love the things they come up with on their own, if it doesn’t involve wrestling or the bathroom.

This kid just cracks me up.  I keep my phone on me at all times, not because I obsessively check face book, but because he is always doing something like this!  And I love Instagram!  His little brother was actually doing it first.  These shoes have been worn almost every day since Christmas.  Now you know I wash them like crazy, but they still stink like you can’t imagine!

None of my boys are good swimmers just yet, but we are enjoying the pool a few days a week.  We try and get there early before the teenagers are awake, which isn’t too hard.  I love my nieces and nephews, but holy cow teenagers are annoying these days!  I wonder what I will think in 8 years!

Lots of t-ball practice in our yard.  The Rays are getting ready for another fun season!  I can’t believe I’m actually starting to become a baseball fan.  Granted the season is way too long and I’d take football and basketball over baseball any day.  I am liking it more than I ever have, especially now that I don’t have to play.  Not sure what’s going on with the Rangers right now, but I like what’s happening with my Baylor Bears!

We’ve declared Monday’s as our big cooking day together.  Last Monday we made mushroom lasagna (which was fabulous), chocolate chip cookies, and banana bread.  The boys love to help me cook and I’m finally starting to like their help.  If I let one boy help with one dish, it goes pretty well.  Takes forever, but sometimes time is all we got at our house.

Homemade ice-cream is always in our freezer.  I’ve made it my mission to make just about every kind of ice cream.  Still think nothing beats good ole’ vanilla.

It was very cloudy and even cool last week.  Loved the break from the heat.  Sadly we sat and waited for the rain that never came.  Still makes for a pretty evening and without moisture, you sure can’t have snakes or frogs!

While we are trying super hard to enjoy our summer, the truth is, we aren’t always happy to be together.  I think we will all be ready for school to start in a few months!

Please share some homemade ice cream recipes! Aren’t the boys allergic to eggs? Since I can’t have the raw eggs during pregnancy – we’ve been trying to find some without eggs in the recipe. We made one strawberry ice cream that was pretty good – but frankly, I’m getting tired of strawberry!

No they aren’t allergic to eggs. Just nuts. You can always heat the eggs before you add them. I’ll try and post them. Pinterest has a ton too. Hope u are feeling good!@Erin

Leslie, I laughed out loud about the teenager thing. This is why I avoid the mall. I just want to slap them all in the face and I think I would go to jail for that.

And I LOVE that “twin ladybugs” pic! That is perfect!
